Impressive Array of Level 1 Medals

on 20 April 2015
Youngsters from Hillingdon Swimming Club pitched their skills against top swimmers from all over Britain at Level 1 Open Meets  in Sheffield and Guildford recently - and stormed home with an impressive array of medals and Personal Best sporting achievements.
Members of HBEST headed to Ponds Forge International Sports Centre for the Sheffield Premier Meet last month and then to Surrey Sports Park for the Guildford Meet last weekend. Both events offered not only the chance to win races and achieve PB's, but also the opportunity to qualify for the 2015 British Summer Championships, the pinnacle of the yearly swimming calendar where the best young swimmers in the country compete.

Sheffield winners included Alfie Collins, who netted 4 medals in the 14 years and under age group - Gold in the 400m IM and 200m IM as well as Bronze in the 200m Butterfly and 400m Freestyle.
Jemima Hall won the 400m Freestyle and 800m Freestyle in the 13 years age group and 12 year old Ceara Barber won the 14 years and under 200m Backstroke with a huge 5 second improvement on her previous Personal Best time.
There were also superb performances from the more senior swimmers including lifetime best times in the 200 IM and 50m Breaststroke from Lauren O'Connor and in the 50m Breaststroke from Bradley O'Connor, both in the 15 years and over group.

HBEST Head Coach John Adye commented afterwards 'This race practice was ideal preparation for the next Qualifier. I look forward to seeing the Squad build upon these performances at these Meets.'

And build upon them they certainly did at the two day Guildford Meet, where swimmers set PB times in most events that they competed in.

Gold medals went to Ellis Morgan 50m Butterfly;  Amirah Otulana 50m Freestyle;  Billy Lee-Knowles 50m and 100m Freestyle;  Ruby Fraser 100m, 200m and 400m Freestyle and Sean-Patrick McGowan 100m and 200m Butterfly, all competing in the 12 years age group.
And then even more from...Molly Thompson 50m Backstroke and 50m Breaststroke in the 14 year age group; Loulou Vos 200m Freestyle; Melanie Hall 400m Freestyle and Mitchell Adams 200m Butterfly all in the 16 year old age groups and Lauren O'Connor who won the 100m Butterfly in the Open category.

Congratulations to all the swimmers and to Head Coach John Adye for two weekends of fantastic swimming.
