Saturday Night at the Diddy....

on 10 June 2015
6th June was a very busy Saturday evening for 51 of our Hillingdon swimmers and 10 Seabyrds SC swimmers, who joined forces to swim for Hillingdon Swimming Club.

It was the first Round of the Milton Keynes Junior Arena League, otherwise know as the Diddy League and Hillingdon Swimming Club, as usual, entered two Teams, so that as many  swimmers as possible would get the opportunity to swim in this friendly but fast paced Event for swimmers aged 9-12 years old.

The MK League has 2 Divisions and out of the 33 Clubs in the MK League only 3 run a B Team. Of these, Hillingdon is the only Club whose B Team is alongside its A Team in the First Division, so we are proud of  the standard of both our Teams.

The A Team hosted their first Round, which was held at Uxbridge Pool and welcomed  Teams from Barnes, Brompton, Bicester Blue Fins, Leander and Wantage Swimming Clubs. The Hillingdon Team swam really well, under the watchful eye of Coach Gary Mohamed and won a total of 23 of the 49 races and came second in a further 15. Almost as impressively and  despite some very young swimmers, there was not a single Hillingdon DQ. Well done swimmers! Whilst the  swimmers were busy in the water, Hillingdon parents were busy on poolside, assisting Sue Gleeson - Team Manager, Teresa Jones on the Front Desk,  Harry and Richard on the computer and Wayne and Murray organising the Officials. Visiting Teams commented on how well run the Gala had been and what a good evening their swimmers had enjoyed.

Well done to the Hillingdon A Team who won the Gala convincingly, scoring a total of 247 points, with Barnes in second place on 202 points.

Meanwhile, the B Team travelled to Staines, where conditions were somewhat more challenging and the competition was fiercer, as they were up against not only Staines, but also Teddington, Windsor, Chalfont Otters and Witney and District Swimming Clubs. The swimmers rose to the occasion with a great poolside Team spirit, joined by Alfie  and Michael who assisted in organising the youngest swimmers and getting them to their races on time, whilst Amy Grimshaw helped Coach Lesley Westendorp with Relay hand overs.  Despite the tough competition, the Team came away with a total of 4 first places and 7 second places and came fifth overall on 121 points. The winning Team was Teddington with 221 points, followed by Staines on 214.
Well done to our swimmers- there was some great swimming and experience was gained all round.
Many thanks to Gillian Neal for Refereeing ( again!) and to our other poolside helpers.

The second Round of the Diddy League will be held on Saturday 4th July and the third Round on Saturday 12th September. Keep the dates free!
