NLGL Report from Saturday 27th June by Trevor Hammond

on 05 July 2015
Wow- what an evening we had at Willesden Sports Centre!
I started to feel bad when half the boys Team hadn't turned up by 6 15pm for warm-up. It turned out that there was a serious accident 'en-route' and the traffic was awful. And one very unfortunate consequence was that Lauren from YC didn't make it as her car broke down in the queue. So just down to 8 girls and missing our fastest swimmer. Not a good start. Made worse by Sophie getting lost using her satnav!! So 15 minutes to change the Team around. Not easy......especially in the wonderful heat......
We had some first timers from JP/YP this season too. Jake Gardner, Harry Smart, Alastair Beard and Taylor Coumbe all starting and swimming extremely well. Jake had 8 Events in total along with Zara, so a busy evening for both. However, choices were limited again due to the availability of swimmers, resulting in some swimming their least strongest stroke.
Anyway, with 5 Teams competing this time, we got off to a great start with Zara and Jake winning bang on the NFT times. Jake managed a PB in all 8 of his races, a great performance. The theme continued for the whole Gala with HSC winning 18 Events, most of which were just inside the NFT. As usual, Leyton were always in the hunt and despite not winning as many, they were consistently in the top 3. We only had 4 costly Upgrades and no DQs. But they added up and we came 2nd overall by just 4 points. Very close again! If just one of those Events had been inside the time, we would have won. That's life....
There were also notable swims from Neha Ghosalkar, Emily Mason, Rhia Shah, Harry Smart, Robert Gates and Taylor Coumbe who all improved PBs significantly on certain strokes.

Well done to all the Team and please make a note of the date of the next Round which is on Saturday 10th October. Parents- please make yourself available to help.
