British Swimming Championships 2017 Review

on 26 April 2017
Three of Hillingdon's six qualifiers travelled to Sheffield last week for this seasons British Championships 2017. These were also used as the selection trials for the teams that will be sent to World Championships, World University Championships, World Junior Championships, European Junior Championships and European Youth Olympic Festival.

Jemima Hall competed in her 2nd British Championships in 100m and 200m Freestyle events and secured a place in the Junior Final in the 100m Freestyle.  Competing within the same Finals session as James Guy, Ross Murdoch and Siobhan Marie O'Connor was an experience that will prove valuable for Jemima moving forward.

Ceara Barber raced all three backstroke distances and showed her class by holding her own with the girls in her age group, some of whom were two years older. Ceara will now have to wait patiently to see if she has been selected for the European Youth Olympic Festival.

Leon Berchie also represented Hillingdon at British Championships in the 50m and 100m Butterfly. Leon progressed to the 'Target Tokyo' Finals in both events and showed that his makeshift training programme between Hillingdon and Southampton University is still sufficient to perform at the highest level. He is looking to build on his performances at the British Summer Championships.
