HBEST Squads

Introduction to Hillingdon Borough Elite Squad  - HBEST
by Head Coach John Adye

Hillingdon Borough Elite Squad- HBEST provides training for swimmers who have been identified by Coaches as capable of training and competing at a higher level. The structure of the squads reflects the Swim21 and Long Term Athlete Development Plan (LTAD).

HBEST sessions are all based at Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex, where we have access to the 50 metre pool that was opened in 2010.
HBEST provides young swimmers with the environment to develop towards their full potential as an athlete. Here, swimmers are exposed to the knowledge, skills and experiences that will help them to enjoy success at the highest level with swimming.

Swimmers begin in HBEST with our Elite 3 Squad, before moving through the Elite 2 Squad with the ultimate aim of training with the Elite 1 Squad.

HBEST is able to boast a history of success at all levels, including County, Regional, National and International.

HBEST Training Camps

HBEST squads have the opportunity to be offered a place on a warm weather training camp.  Our squads have trained at the BEST Centre in Palma, Coral Beach Resort in Cyprus and Oasis Papagayo Sport Resort in Fuerteventura.

In February 2015 HBEST swimmers travelled to Fuerteventura in Spain to train at the Oasis Papagayo Sport Resort.  The swimmers were accommopanied by HBEST Head Coach - John Adye, Gary Mohamed - HBEST Junior Development Coach and Lesley Westendorp - RNSS Head Coach.

The focus of the camp was to prepare the swimmers for both the qualifying window for the British Summer National Championships (Mid March to May) and also the British Championships/World Championship Trials in April.

All 22 swimmers completed between 9 and 11 sessions in 7 days and bonded as a team throughout the camp.
